StarGuide®
MX3 Digital Multimedia Multiplexer
A multi-channel, multi-carrier satellite uplink multiplexer
that can link up to 120 simultaneous digital, audio, video,
and data services. The MX3 Multiplexer aggregates multiple
digital streams to provide services to StarGuide® II and
III Receivers. The MX3 Multipexer is monitored and controlled
via the automated VBNMS (described below) and can be locked
to an external clock so that digital data can be received from
remote sites via a standard terrestrial connection, such as
ISDN or T1. |
 |
StarGuide®
II Multimedia Receiver
A feature-rich MX3 compatible satellite receiver that
provides multi-channel per carrier (MCPC) operation supporting
simultaneous digital audio, video, and data services. This Receiver
handles a wide array of a broadcaster's transmission needs through
the use of the patented flexible bandwidth architecture of the
MX3 system and up to five plug-in Service Modules. The
Receiver can be managed or even upgraded over the satellite
channel. Receivers can tune instantly to added satellite carriers,
creating a flexible approach to expanding networks. The StarGuide®
II Receiver works at data rates from 512 Kilobits/second to
6.144 Megabits/second in MX3 mode and up to 8.192 Megabits/second
in clear channel mode. |
 |
StarGuide®
III Multimedia Receiver
The next-generation of MX3 compatible satellite receivers.
In addition to all of the features of the StarGuide® II
receiver, the StarGuide® III receiver provides an additional
Service Module port allowing the receiver to handle up to six
unique audio, video, or data services simultaneously. The StarGuide®
III Receiver is also capable of a wider array of data rates
and code rates which allows broadcasters the room to grow their
networks up to a full transponder. The StarGuide® III Receiver
presently can work at data rates up to 25 Megabits/second, but
this data rate can be greater if needed for a given application.

StarGuide®
II and III Service Modules
The StarGuide® II and III receivers each contain ports
which can be populated with StarGuide Service Modules. These
modules are specially designed, low cost, plug-in modules
that can be used to provide any combination of audio, video,
and data services simultaneously. Current Service Modules
include:

eDAS
(Ethernet Enabled Digital Audio Storage) Module
A revolutionary "store-and-forward" advance that brings
the power and flexibility of the Transportal 2000
delivery system into the receiver. This card allows
a "live" audio feed to be automatically mixed locally
with pre-encoded audio clips or "spots". The spots are
sent via satellite through the Transportal 2000
delivery and scheduling system to the eDAS Module
in a StarGuide® Receiver. Since each eDAS
Module is uniquely addressed a spot can either be sent
to a single eDAS Module or a group of eDAS
Modules, allowing networks to regionalize or even localize
targeted advertisements, liners, or short form programming.
The eDAS Module can currently store up to 2 ½
hours of 128kbps encoded audio and is capable of being
upgraded to 5 hours. Files encoded at 64, 96, 192, and
256 kbps are also supported. Content delivery is confirmed
over the Internet through the integrated 10/100BT interface
or an external modem. In addition, the content of the
Module can be "browsed" from any personal computer via
a built-in web site capability on the Module. |
 |
10Based-T
Ethernet Interface Module
A unique data module that allows receivers to bolt directly
up to a 10BT LAN essentially creating a WAN via satellite.
The StarGuide® 10BT Ethernet Interface module receives
IP data via satellite and routes it to an external LAN.
The Module supports both multicasting and individually
addressed IP packets. For multicasted data, the Module
acts like a multicast router supporting IGMPv2. The
Module can be remotely monitored via telnet and SNMP.
|
 |
10/100Based-T
Ethernet Interface Module
An enhanced Ethernet module that supports both 10BT
and 100BT LAN's. This Module supports all of the features
of the 10BT Ethernet Interface module but enhances the
Ethernet interface so that it auto-negotiates between
10BT and 100BT networks. |

Musicam®
MPEG Layer II Digital Audio Decoder Module
A high quality Musicam® Audio Decoder Module designed
for broadcast applications. This Decoder Module provides
20kHz of CD-quality balanced audio as well as four relay
contact closures and an asynchronous data stream. This
Module is ideal for the radio broadcast industry. The
decoder will automatically adjust to the encoded data
rate and mode (mono/stereo/joint stereo). |
 |
Relay
Expansion Module
An additional automation tool to be used in conjunction
with the Musicam® Decoder Module. When a broadcaster
needs more than four relays embedded in a audio stream
for automation purposes, the Relay Expansion Module
provides up to 16 relay contact closures. Since the
relay contact closure information is embedded in the
digitized audio stream, the relationship between the
audio and the relay contact closure is preserved. |
 |
MPEG2
Digital Video Decoder Module
An MPEG2 video decoder that delivers a single channel
of digital video including the associated audio. The
MPEG2 Digital Decoder supports both NTSC and PAL outputs
while the audio decoder supports mono, stereo, and joint
stereo output modes. The MPEG2 Digital Video Decoder
module automatically detects the settings of the encoded
video stream generated at the head-end. |

StarGuide®
Virtual Bandwidth Network Management System (VBNMS™)
Software that allows network operators to maintain and operate
their multimedia satellite networks from a central location.
The StarGuide® VBNMS controls both the satellite bandwidth
allocation of services and access control of individual StarGuide
receivers. The VBNMS is a Windows based program that allows
network administrators to monitor and control the MX3
system both locally and remotely. The next version will be on
a Microsoft Windows SQL server 2005 platform using the Microsoft
.NET Framework. |
 |
StarGuide®
Transportal 2000™ Multimedia Delivery Service
A
comprehensive store and forward delivery service that utilizes
both terrestrial and satellite components for electronic media
delivery. The Transportal 2000 Delivery System combines
the best features of satellite, Internet, point-to-point terrestrial
connection, and traditional dub-and-ship methods to produce
a state of the art media delivery system that is economical,
reliable, and fast. This System includes packaging, tracking,
and confirmation that can be accessed either locally or remotely
via the Internet.

StarGuide®
DVB
Multiplexer
A high capacity
DVB multiplexer supporting up to 40 audio channels and 20
external transport streams multiplexed into a single DVB output
stream. Multiplexers can be cascaded to produce DVB streams
with a high number of services. The StarGuide DVB Multiplexer
consists of up to 20 integrated Musicam® Audio Encoding
cards and a Starguide® MPEG-DVB Sub-Multiplexer Card.
Each Encoder card can encode 2 stereo analog audio feeds while
the Sub-Multiplexer Card controls and aggregates the data
within the chassis. The StarGuide Multiplexer is controlled
through a 10BaseT interface with either telnet or SNMP.
|
 |
StarGuide®
SG-DVB Multi-channel Receiver
